Amy Barrett is the owner and creative energy of Lasso the Moon Toys, located on the historic walking mall in downtown Helena, MT. As a mother of five, Amy was intrigued by the way toys affected her children’s play.

Amy observed that interacting with well-made toys that ignited her children’s natural curiosity seemed to provide the most fun, imaginative, and cooperative play experiences. Their playthings were actually helping them grow as people and were influencing their attitudes and skills.

Although originally from the south, Amy worked in Yellowstone one college summer and fell in love with Montana. When the opportunity to open a toy store presented itself, she poured herself into it. From designing the store logo, hand painting murals on the walls, designing shelving and layout, to filling it with the most creative and imaginative playthings available, her sixth child Lasso the Moon was born. And to this day she continues to enjoy finding the best toys from makers who are environmentally conscious, socially responsible, and seek to foster healthy development and active play in children.

All five of her children grew up being product testers as well as helping with many aspects of the store operations. Twenty-five years later, much to Amy’s delight, her daughter Savanna returned to Helena to become an official partner of Lasso the Moon! Both have passed the certification requirements to be deemed a ‘Certified Play Expert’ by ASTRA (American Specialty Toy Retailing Association).

Amy, Savanna, and the Lasso the Moon staff look forward to providing positive play experiences for the children of Helena and to be a resource to families for generations to come.
